OK Boomer with Robert

Because, every week we feature the latest Boomer news, Boomer brainteasers, Boomer fitness, Boomer nutrition (not cheeseburgers and fries), and Boomer history--As Mark Twain allegedly said ”History doesn’t repeat itself, but it DOES rhyme! 70-year-old Robert Rickman was born in the middle of the Boomer surge, recently contracted Covid19, and suffers from amusing bouts of brain fog while broadcasting LIVE from a local radio station in southern Illinois. Bob Baer of Southern Illinois University is organizing amateur astronomers nationwide to observe the total eclipse on April 8, 2024.
And guess what little town surrounded farms by and forests will be at the center of the universe that afternoon?
Now to the topic of work. Surprisingly there is a large segment of Boomers who have not retired but are still working. So many, that the director of a Midwest senior center says many of the working Boomers can’t find time to visit the center.
Have you listened to a.m. radio lately. A few years ago I worked at an A.M. radio station in Nashville, Tn but when two low power F.M. transmitters were added, many people switched to the FMs. We’ll examine the future of a.m. radio with a professor who spent 50-years in the broadcasting industry.

A few weeks ago, I spotted a woman curled-up next to a plastic box of her things. I think she was homeless. And though I couldn’t see her face, she might have been a Boomer, because too many Boomers are retiring…to the streets.
Percussionist Kevin Lucas will be performing two fundraisers late this month for the homeless. We’ll hear from Keven later in the program.
Exercise! Walking on a treadmill texting on your Smart phone. Actually, some of us would rather text and skip the treadmill. But what would you think if there was someplace to walk where you could actually see interesting things?

Two years ago I visited a Senior Citizens Center for the first time. Why? Because at 68 I didn’t think I was old. It turns out other Boomers feel the same way according to Jill Graskowitzwho talks about her parents.
Jill runs a local senior center that is catering to the young-oldsters. She’ll be on in a few minutes.
Now let’s here is something that doesn’t make much sense….a rural area surrounded by farms BUT...with little access to fresh food.

Olivia De Haviland starred in one of the first films to treat mental illness seriously Snake Pit, made in 1948. We think you should see it again.
Speaking of mental health. We’ll discuss COVID and the brain., and it’s not good. A COVID vaccine initiative...that’s good. Coffee and the brain...even better. And we’ll have some stats about how big the Baby Boomer generation is in general, and what’s happening to us health-wise.
That's next on OK Boomer with Robert Rickman.
