On this week's program...
A spilled cup of coffee during the broadcast resulted in fifteen exciting and unpredictable minutes on-the-air!
Also, the combined trust funds of Social Security are expected to run out by 2035, and Boomers are understandably worried about this. But economics professor Kevin Sylvester isn't worried, and he'll tell us why.
Turning to health. Yolonda Simon’s genes don’t look very good.  Her mother and older sister died from Alzheimer's, and she has a younger sister who is suffering from it now. Yolanda, who is an Alzheimer’s Community Educator, talks about the disease, and her chances of getting it.

Then we go to the OK Boomer film critic...Robert Rickman who will screen an obscure but hilarious movie based on...waste baskets.

OK Boomer for 4-21-23

Monday Apr 24, 2023

Monday Apr 24, 2023

Some of us OK Boomers are asking people tooooooo….speak up. That’s because aging and hearing loss go together. But that's not the case for everyone because when the power goes out Diane Hardt pricks-up her ears.
We’ll talk with Diane about how noisy it is in the 21st Century compared to the 18-hundreds.

And in the wake of the pandemic we’ve all noticed prices climbing for nearly everything! But there is one place in a small rural community that’s keeping costs down….way down, says Celeste Williams.

.

We’ll join Celeste after she made a two dollar sale….to me at a local senior’s thrift store.
And speaking of sales! What do Boomers do with their already been-read books?
They donate them to Sahra Heyer, who operates a local gently used bookstore. We’ll be talking with Sahra about the book habits of seniors.
And….
We’ll feature scams aimed at seniors, health insurance expansion next year (we’ll explain) senior travel habits, processed food (some of it is actually good for you)….and more.

Next on OK Boomer where we're "Keepin' it Real!

Wednesday Apr 19, 2023

In this episode, we will hear from a Boomer...a first responder who came upon a scene of incredible death and destruction when he was in his twenties. And he stuffed this horrible memory for decades until...well the tragedy started in the air over San Diego in 1978.

Mark Twain allegedly said history doesn’t repeat itself but it does rhyme. Can you think of anything today that rhymed with the events of 100 years ago?
Edward R Murrow reports about the tragic presidency of Woodrow Wilson.
In this century, Ann Stalheber ran a farmer’s market last year, after retiring…and she's glad she did!

Keep busy...that’s the ticket. And we’ll also examine how keeping active in our leisure time, may delay or even prevent Dementia. And maybe so can coffee.

Then we come to the “Banana Scam” You know, when you’re at the self-checkout and select bananas for 44-cents a pound,...and scan a T-Bone steak?
Then there is Juice jacking. No, not fruit juice, but the juice that comes out of those USB chargers located in hotels and airports. Finally in a feew days you might experience the Social Security Stealth tax. Illegal….no

Then there is the question of retiring to a foreign country...

Plus, the social security board of trustees has estimated in what year the combined trust funds will be depleted.

Finally must of us know that our muscles weaken with age..or maybe it’s not really the muscles.
